Keane here to stay, says happy Black Cats' chairman Quinn

Sunderland manager Roy Keane is on the verge of signing a four-year contract. Keane, who has a year left on his existing deal, hopes the board will stump up the cash for a summer transfer spree. Among the players he is looking at are Newcastle's Damien Duff, Reading's Stephen Hunt and Aiden McGeady of Celtic.

Keane is an outsider for the Chelsea vacancy but Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn is not worried by the speculation. He said: "I'm not overly surprised that Roy has been linked but rather than fret about it I'd take it as a positive that we must be doing something right as a football club. I'm pretty happy at this stage that he'll be with us for a long time to come.

"Roy and I have had an understanding from day one of this journey at Sunderland and we don't really need a contract to confirm anything between us.

"But when it comes to signing new players, and for the players already at the club, for those reasons there will be a contract offered shortly.

"Players need to see commitment. We are circling one or two targets and we want Roy to be satisfied."
