Keane joins £2m race for United defender

Fulham are battling it out with Sunderland over the signing of Manchester United defender Jonny Evans in a £2million deal

Manager Lawrie Sanchez knows Evans well having selected him while in charge of Northern Ireland but Sunderland boss Roy Keane is also determined to buy the 20-year-old after he impressed during a loan spell at the Stadium of Light last season.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is believed to be keen to sell in January after growing concerned at Evans's lack of progress.

Meanwhile, defender Liam Rosenior returns to Craven Cottage tomorrow for the first time since he had a bust-up with Sanchez and was sold to Reading in August.

Rosenior is desperate to help Reading move further away from the relegation zone but said: "I'm not the type to hold a grudge and I hope certain people at Fulham feel the same way. Sometimes people don't get on, but you still have respect and I'd never refuse to shake anybody's hand."

Fulham will be without defenders Paul Konchesky and Carlos Bocanegra through suspension.
