Keane makes £10m offer for Everton's Johnson in bid to replace crocked Jones

Sunderland have made a £10m bid for Everton striker Andy Johnson as Roy Keane increases his search for Kenwyne Jones's short-term replacement.

Jones still fears he could be out of action for nine months with a knee injury and Keane, who has also inquired after Spurs striker Darren Bent, has a £40m budget to find a new front man.

England striker Johnson, 27, scored just 10 goals for David Moyes's team last season and has attracted interest from other Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa and Manchester City, who are prepared to offer £7m.

Moyes, who paid Crystal Palace £8.6m for Johnson two years ago, may now be willing to cash in despite needing extra bodies for the UEFA Cup campaign.
