Keane ready to up his offer to land Reading defender Shorey

Roy Keane is ready to increase his offer for Reading full-back Nicky Shorey in a bid to see off Portsmouth and Aston Villa.
In demand: Nicky Shorey
The manager failed with a £3 million offer last week, but has since admitted he desperately wants to bring in a new left back and hopes to land the England defender.
He is expected to up his bid to £4 million in a bid to tempt Steve Coppell to sell the 27-year-old.
Keane also faces a fight to hold onto forward Michael Chopra. Phil Brown believes the former Newcastle and Cardiff striker could be the player to add some firepower to his newly-promoted squad and is weighing up a move.
Kenwyne Jones could face a lengthy absence through injury and that may see Keane reject a sale.
Dean Whitehead meanwhile has insisted he will not leave Sunderland this summer. Stoke lead a host of clubs chasing the 26-year-old midfielder but he said: “I don’t want to leave and I haven’t been told anything that would make me think I would be leaving. It’s all rubbish and rumours.
“People ring you up and say ‘You’ve been linked here and there’ but unless it comes from the manager you learn to just block it out.
“The manager hasn’t said much to me really. The way it is at Sunderland you just do your talking on the pitch and you get in the starting eleven.”
