And it came a month after Jermain Defoe missed a last-minute penalty which would have won the match at West Ham.

However, Keane insists his failure will not put him off taking the next penalty. The Spurs skipper told the Sun: "Of course I'll take another one, no question.

"I cannot remember the last time I missed before Saturday. It might have been against Sunderland a few years ago but it's one of those things. You just have to get on with it, there's nothing else you can do.

"I'm experienced enough to know you get great and bad days and that was one of those bad ones but I will get over it.

"I'm a confident person and things don't really get me down. Of course I was disappointed about the penalty, that's natural, but it takes a little bit more than that to get me down.

"It's hard when you get beaten by your local rivals, especially for the fans because you want the bragging rights when you see your mates.

"But we've been playing well and can take a lot of positives from what happened at Arsenal.

"It's very important for this squad what happens over the Christmas period because if we get back-to-back wins we are right back in there again. We're looking forward to Fulham and can hopefully put things right."

Last season Keane scored twice against Fulham in a 4-0 fifth-round FA Cup win and kept banging them in all the way to the end of the campaign.

He has continued his scoring streak this season with 13. He added: "Playing all the time and keeping the momentum going is important for any striker.

"I've been fortunate enough to score a lot of goals this season."

Fulham is a must-win if Spurs have any pretensions to get into Europe. Keane said: "It's a home game and one you would expect us to win.

"We've got Fulham, then home to Reading and away to Aston Villa and they are games we are capable of winning. With the strikers we've got we'll always score goals but it's important not to concede."
