Kenwright urges fans to look forward

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has urged fans to embrace the future and back plans to build a new stadium in Kirkby.

Current season-ticket holders - plus anyone who has held one in the past three seasons - will this month be balloted over the proposed move to a 50,000-capacity ground.

The club have said they will abide by the majority view in the ballot, being run by the Electoral Reform Society, when the result is known later this month.

But Kenwright is keen to move on.

"If via the ballot fans do not want us to pursue the Kirkby option, we won't," said the chairman in a leaflet to be circulated to fans.

"No-one loves Goodison Park more than I do but we have reached a critical moment in our history. Remaining at our current home is my preferred option, but that has simply not proved possible.

"So we must look to a future in a new home, one that will provide both the benefits of modern design and the heart of Goodison."

Manager David Moyes added his support, saying: "In the past few years it has become patently clear that only those clubs which can boost an impressive financial clout can truly compete for the major prizes.

"What we don't want is to be left behind. I want the best for Everton in both the short and long terms.

"The stadium in Kirkby will provide us with the facilities we need to keep moving forward."
