Kenyon reveals: We'll sort out a new Lampard deal - but we'll do it in private

Frank Lampard and Chelsea will eventually thrash out a new contract, Blues chief executive Peter Kenyon insisted today.

Kenyon also refused to give credence to reports manager Avram Grant would be sacked in the summer if he failed to deliver either the Barclays Premier League or Champions League.

New deal: But Frank Lampard's business will be done behind closed door, insists Chelsea chief Peter Kenyon

Star midfielder Lampard, 29, has expressed his frustration over the club's desire to postpone contract-extension talks until the summer.

The England international, whose existing deal expires in the summer of 2009, wants the situation resolved as soon as possible.

Speaking at this afternoon's Champions League draw in Nyon, Switzerland, Kenyon said: "The discussions that we'll have with Frank will be kept private and that's important.

"Both parties have made it absolutely clear we want to find a resolution.

"Hopefully we'll do that sooner rather than later."

Asked if the parties could arrive at a resolution before the end of the season, Kenyon added on Sky Sports News: "Anything's realistic. I just don't want to add more speculation counting down each day to the summer."

"We're committed - as is Frank - to finding the right solution to keep him at Stamford Bridge."

Grant, who succeeded Jose Mourinho in September, has come under increasing pressure recently after Chelsea's Carling Cup final defeat to Tottenham and last weekend's shock FA Cup loss at Coca-Cola Championship Barnsley.

Rumours persists that the Israeli will be replaced if he repeats those failures in the Champions League and Premier League.

"None of that is emanating from the club," Kenyon said.

"We appointed Avram on a four-year contract back in September. His job was never contingent on silverware this year.

"It's about Chelsea moving on and continuing to build on what's been achieved over the last three years.

"The season's not over yet."
