Lampard sets his sights on another piece of history

Frank Lampard has insisted that it is vital for Chelsea to finish the season on a high by beating Manchester United at Wembley.

The Premiership's top two clubs meet at the new stadium on 19 May and Lampard said: "It's an FA Cup Final. I've never won it. It's the first one at Wembley which is a huge thing.

Frank Lampard: shooting for cup final glory

"For all the disappointment of not winning the league and not getting to the Champions League Final we can still win another trophy.

"You put the negative things to the back of your mind and concentrate on the good things. We can't lose our focus in the next couple of weeks."

In going out to Liverpool in Europe on penalties and conceding the title at Arsenal on Sunday, Chelsea have been baited repeatedly by opposing fans that they lack a glittering past.

But they can add an FA Cup to two Premiership triumphs and two Carling Cups under Mourinho and Lampard insists the Portuguese deserves credit for that.

He said: "Chelsea have got history. Our short-term history is better than anyone else's, and our long-term history is one laced with great players, medals, cup competitions and leagues. Arsenal's short-term history isn't very good so they can shout about it as much as they want."

Joe Cole said the thought of playing in a Cup final was what had driven him on as he recovered from injury.

He said: "The FA Cup is the only thing I have not won in this country, so I am really up for it. All the fight, all my effort in the gym, will be for that day at Wembley. I want to go and win something, to take the best I can out of this season.

Dejection: Terry, Jose Mourinho and Lampard after a 1-1 draw with Arsenal ended their reign as Premiership champions

"Injuries cost us this year but no one is going to feel sorry for us because we have a big squad. However, now we are all focused on the FA Cup."

John Terry has also warned United the Premiership title is only on loan to them.

"Over the last two years we have done so well in the competition and feel as though it is ours," said the Chelsea captain.

"I certainly hope the title is only on loan. We want to get it back as soon as possible.

"It is the target for our whole squad and over the past few years that has been our main one. The Champions League was disappointing again this year, but we now desperately want the Premiership title back and we will be fighting again next season."
