Not getting the rub: Lampard hands Chelsea more worries
It is the latest in a series of blows for the Chelsea boss who already has captain John Terry and top scorer Didier Drogba on the injury list and trails league leaders Manchester United by seven points.
Terry could be out for a further two months after breaking bones in his right foot against Arsenal on December 16 and Drogba has undergone surgery on a knee problem.
As soon as Drogba is fit he will go to the African Nations Cup with the Ivory Coast, a competition which will also take Michael Essien, John Mikel Obi and Salomon Kalou from the Chelsea ranks.
Claude Makelele is out for a month after an ear operation and back-up keeper Carlo Cudicini injured his ribs in training last week.
Ricardo Carvalho will miss the next three games — against Newcastle, Fulham and QPR — after his red card against Aston Villa for a two-footed lunge on Gabriel Agbonlahor. Ashley Cole will also miss the
Newcastle match if his appeal against his sending-off for handball in the same game is rejected by the FA today.
The FA are also hearing the appeal by Villa defender Zat Knight who was dismissed for a foul on Michael Ballack.
Grant said: "I'm waiting for the day when I can be like other managers and have all my players available."
With even Chelsea's vast squad set to be stretched to the limit next month, the Stamford Bridge manager is anxious to complete early deals when the transfer market opens next week.
A £15million move for Bolton's Nicolas Anelka is understood to have been agreed in principle.
