Lamps our No1 target, say Inter

Inter Milan today confirmed that signing Frank Lampard is their No1 priority.

The Chelsea midfielder is due to resume talks over a new contract this week but Inter are determined to reunite him with his former Blues boss, Jose Mourinho.

Lampard, who joined Chelsea in 2001, has only one year left on his current deal and has indicated he will stay at Stamford Bridge if the club match his wage demands.

However, Inter hope the lure of a giant salary and the chance to work again with Mourinho will tempt the 29-year-old to move to the San Siro.

"Lampard? We like him, and he's our No1 objective," said Inter president Massimo Moratti. "Mourinho likes Lampard a lot. We all know that he's a great player."

Inter have yet to bid for Lampard and Moratti was coy about the progress of their efforts to get the England international. The Italian said: "Has there been contact with Chelsea? I think there has but I don't know yet."

Meanwhile, Barcelona playmaker Deco today claimed Chelsea are interested in signing him but insists he has not discussed the idea with Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari, who takes over at Stamford Bridge next month.

The midfielder said: "There's interest from Chelsea, which is normal, but Scolari hasn't said anything to me. He is a great coach and if I end up working with him again I'd be very happy."

Scolari discovered today, when the new season's fixture lists were published, that his first Premier League game will be at home to Portsmouth.
