Lee not prepared to stop his summer spending spree

With a hectic schedule of domestic and UEFA Cup games to come, the former Liverpool coach wants to bring his numbers up.

Bolton face Fulham in the Premier League on Wednesdsay, and Lee said: "We have a lot of quality at the club but you have to take into consideration all eventualities, like injuries.

"While there is still time for other players here to make their mark, we want cover in all departments. It is very important we have that."

Lee is forced to make two changes to the side that lost to Newcastle, with Kevin Davies (hamstring) and Ricardo Vaz Te (knee) sidelined through injury.

It could mean a start at Craven Cottage for Mikel Alonso, who arrived in the summer on loan from Real Sociedad.

The brother of Liverpool's Xabi is anxious to make an impression after stepping off the bench at the weekend.

Alonso said: "I am not worried about the difference between Spain and England.

"The Premier League is a more physical league and more intense. Players have to adapt.

"But I am trying to bring the good things from Spain into the Premier League. It is a great challenge."

Lee has asked Bolton's supporters to give him time to stamp his mark on the club.

He said: "We have made a lot of changes, and most of the players have had five to six weeks to work together.

"But it may take time to get things the way I want - and I hope people are patient.

"That is not to excuse the performance against Newcastle because we just did not turn up in the first half.

"I am now aiming for a response at Fulham. They will be looking to get at us because it is their first home game, but we have to cope with that."

Bolton were three goals down at half-time against Sam Allardyce's Newcastle but then raised their game and pulled a goal back through Nicolas Anelka.

Lee said: "I have not stopped thinking about that game - and neither have the players. They did not do themselves justice.

"But we now have to look at the next match, where there will be different obstacles. We have to try to overcome them."
