The 41-year-old League One manager was driving his car in north Leeds after enjoying a meal with his family in the city centre when his vehicle came under attack by youths.
Wise jumped out of his car at about 1am and chased a teenager, but he was unable to hold on to him.
West Yorkshire Police said a 41-year-old man and a 13-year-old youth had been interviewed in connection with the incident.
A police spokeswoman said there had been no arrests and no charges.
The spokeswoman said police were investigating criminal damage to a car and also an allegation of assault by a 13-year-old boy.
"Inquiries are ongoing," she added.
No one in Wise's 4x4 vehicle was injured during the incident which happened in Potternewton, in north Leeds, at about 1am on New Year's Day.
The manager was travelling with his mother-in-law, his heavily pregnant wife Claire and their two young children.
It is understood they were returning home to North Yorkshire after a night at a Leeds city centre restaurant.
A spokesman for Leeds United said: "We can confirm that Dennis's vehicle was attacked.
"The police are investigating the matter and Dennis is cooperating fully with their investigations.
"His two children in the car were left very upset and his wife and mother-in-law were very shaken by the incident."
Wise has steered Leeds into the play-off places in Coca-Cola League One this season, despite the club being hit with a 15-point deduction for breaking strict rules on insolvency after going into administration last summer.
But Leeds's unlikely promotion charge has been hit with two successive defeats to Swansea and Oldham over the Christmas period, which ruined Wise's plans of being top of the table at the turn of the year.
