Let the mindgames begin - Capello vows to smash the 'mental block' that stops England winning things

Fabio Capello insists he will make England world beaters - with mindgames.

The Italian England boss-elect was shocked at Steve McClaren's side's failure to make the Euro 2008 finals but believes he can rid the team of its 'mental block'.

Capello told The Sun: "There is a tremendous difference in the attitude they show from one game to the next.

"It's clear there is a mental block - how else can you explain elimination from Euro 2008? How can players of the level of David Beckham or Michael Owen have performances so different when they play for the national team?

"It's clear the shirt is very heavy for them - even those champions. The manager has a fundamental role to play in this situation - more of a psychologist than a tactician or technician."

He added: "England, very much like Spain, wins very little despite having very good players."
