Levy demands deal shake-up after Spurs have to sell Berbatov and Keane

chairman Daniel Levy has claimed the departures of Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane highlight the worthlessness of long term player contract and has called on the Premier League to tighten regulations regarding transfers.

Clearly still smarting at the manner of Berbatov and Keane's departures to Manchester United and Liverpool respectively, Levy claimed he had been left with no choice to sell the duo because their heads had already been turned.

'The events were further evidence of the need for the Premier League to review the system.' said Levy who agreed to drop complaints over both United and Liverpool's conduct after receiving over £50million in transfer fees for the pair.

He added: 'I have also previously said that we had no need to sell players on long contracts - this no longer remains practical. Juande Ramos was clear, and I believe correct, in not wishing to embrace any player within the dressing room that had no desire to play for the badge of this club and for his team-mates. Under these circumstances we had no option but to sell these players.'
