Losing it... moaning Mourinho claims refs favour Ferguson

Jose Mourinho last night claimed there was one rule for Manchester United and one for the others after Chelsea failed to close the gap at thetop of the Premiership.

A day after United drew 1-1 with Middlesbrough, Chelsea's match at Newcastle was goalless, leaving them three points behind Sir Alex Ferguson's side.

But Mourinho was enraged by referee Mark Halsey's refusal to award Chelsea a 10th-minute penalty. "It looks like it is forbidden to give a penalty against United and in our favour," he said.

He was referring to Middlesbrough's unsuccessful appeals for a last-minute penalty on Saturday and he added: "If someone punishes me because I tell the truth, it is the end of democracy."

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich travelled to Newcastle and Mourinho was adamant that his future has been settled, despite revelations that chief executive Peter Kenyon met former Germany boss Jurgen Klinsmann this month.

"A board can do what they want," said Mourinho. "What matters is they want me to stay."

Mourinho confirmed that Ricardo Carvalho, absent yesterday, is unlikely to face Liverpool in Wednesday's Champions League semi-final and midfielder Michael Ballack is also doubtful.
