Macarthur can take command with show of stamina

Aidan O'Brien appears to have a stranglehold on today's Ladbrokes St Leger (3.15) with four runners and the lightly-raced MACARTHUR could prove to be the best of his quartet.

The final Classic has lost some of the kudos it once enjoyed, but try telling that to the Ballydoyle operation who have mopped up three of the last six runnings.

Staying power: Macarthur

In Macarthur they have a fresh horse that appears to be peaking at the right time and he doesn't have much to find on his running behind second favourite Lucarno in the Great Voltigeur at York last time.

He was talked of as the O'Brien Derby horse in the close season and today's extra two furlongs should suit as he has a pedigree full of stamina.

COCONUT MOON (Chester, nap, 2.50) boasts the perfect stall one for a front-running sprinter and Eric Alston's mare looks a decent bet to follow up a recent win over course and distance.

There was little disgrace in her run at Haydock last weekend in a big field and a return to the tight contours of Chester should see her go close under Kevin Darley.

Earlier on the card, ALAN DEVONSHIRE (Chester, 2.20) should be able to put his experience of the track last time to good use.

I felt he was a shade unfortunate not to score that day as he was shuffled back at a crucial time, yet stayed on well to close on the winner who had nicked first run on him.

DAUBERVAL (Goodwood, nb, 2.55) showed tenacity to win at the track last month and should go well again, especially as runner-up Trenchtown has won since to boost the form.

Tajdeef (Doncaster, 2.10) is the lay as he may be priced up on hype.
