Magpies swoop for £4m Swiss midfielder Inler to replace Emre

Newcastle are preparing a £4m bid for Swiss international Gokhan Inler, after the midfielder impressed manager Kevin Keegan during Euro 2008.

Despite the co-hosts' early exit from the tournament, Inler's performances convinced Keegan that he would adapt easily to the Premier League.

The 24-year-old Turkish-born Udinese player is viewed as the ideal replacement for Emre, who will join Fenerbahce this summer.

The Daily Telegraph also reports that Keegan is also keeping a close eye on Per Ciljan Skjelbred, 21, the 2004 winner of a Norwegian talent show who turned down the first prize of a week's trial at Liverpool to sign a full-time contract with Rosenborg.
