Mahmood rejects IPL deal

Sajid Mahmood is the latest England cricketer to reveal he has rejected an offer to join the Indian Premier League.

The Lancashire paceman's admission today came 24 hours after Essex all-rounder Ravi Bopara confirmed he had turned down a £50,000 deal to play in the Twenty20 competition because he did not want to jeopardise his international prospects.

Mahmood, 26, has not been picked by England for more than a year and could be tempted by the IPL if he continues to be ignored.

He said: "My aim is to play for England but, if you're not getting in the side, the IPL is a big carrot."

England players who sign up with the IPL risk not being selected and Mahmood, who was in the Lancashire side taking on Durham in the County Championship at Old Trafford today, added: "I'm desperate to work my way back into the England side.

"But if things don't work out, the IPL is a massive draw. There is a lot of money on offer and a cricketer's career is short. My aim is to be back in the England side. If not, I can look at my options."
