Make no mistake, no one's jealous of wonderkid Danny

My London Wasps team-mate Danny Cipriani is getting lots of attention at the moment because he is just like Jonny Wilkinson but with so much more going on! He is perfect for sponsors and the media to focus on because he is a rugby wonderkid with the world at his feet and is, supposedly, good looking.

There are not many Ciprianis around. The No10 jersey is the glory position in a rugby team and it is never going to be the same for those of us who ply our trade in the second row.

To be honest, I would never want the kind of rugby life that Danny is enjoying, but that's down to the sort of character I am. There are no doubts that there are other players in different positions who would love to be him, but they are never going to achieve it because they are not at No10 and do not have his talents.

All the talk at the moment is about what went on in training this week between Danny and Josh Lewsey. I, honestly, did not see what happened as I had my head down at the time. But I heard a whack and the drill we were working on came to an abrupt end.

The pair of them have now sorted it out and the only way you learn in life is through personal experiences good and bad.

It's very hard to be critical of anything Danny does. At his age, I was at university in Bristol enjoying myself while studying international business studies and Spanish. Remarkably, nobody offered me a multi-million pound contract to wear their boots while I was playing in the west country and I cannot remember any females I was associated with warranting space in the gossip columns either.

The major difference between us at 20 years old is that he is a much more marketable commodity than I was. The confusion for those people who never see Danny putting in the time on the training pitch or during his rehabilitation from that awful ankle injury, is that they associate him with being pictured coming out of a nightclub or having model Kelly Brook on his arm.

I first met him years ago at a sponsors dinner and he was much younger, part of our academy and the only thing he wanted to do was play for Wasps.

Now the off-the-field attention from the media combined with Danny's initial success on the pitch have changed his life forever.

I believe Danny likes the attention and good on him.

Jealousy within the Wasps squad is not a factor spats in training happen all the time and the only concerns are that he lets all of this attention go to his head and he ends up failing. No one at Wasps wants that to happen. We only want what's best for him on the rugby pitch because he is a key part of what we are trying to achieve as a club.

Critics can claim he hasn't done anything yet, but Danny has a Heineken Cup winner's medal and won the Guinness Premiership last season and has his whole future ahead of him.

If I was to reborn would I come back as Danny? No, because I have never wanted that kind of attention. Others thrive in that situation and it makes him the player he is. We should never try to take that away from him.
