Mark Cueto can't bear being a rank outsider

Mark Cueto today challenged his England team-mates to drag themselves back up the world rankings after dropping to eighth.

It's six years since England were world champions but last week's defeat to Australia leaves them two places below Argentina. With New Zealand arriving at Twickenham next week, Cueto is determined England don't fall any further.

The wing said: "Being eighth in the rankings is not acceptable at all. With the quality of players we have in England and competitions like the Guinness Premiership, this isn't where we want to be.

"We are desperate to improve that ranking and there's huge pressure going into this match because we have the All Blacks on the horizon and you don't want to go into that with a record showing 0-2 from the autumn matches."

Team manager Martin Johnson wants his side to focus on results, and let the rankings follow.

He said: "As world rankings are concerned, what really bothers me is that we have lost matches. Of course we would like to be No1 and to get there you've got to start taking the right steps."
