THE GUARDIAN: After John Terry's personal trauma in the penalty shoot-out in Moscow came redemption of sorts last night as he recovered his poise to score England's opening goal against the United States, with the Chelsea centre-half admitting the award of the captaincy had been a "huge boost" to his confidence and insisting he was a big-game player. The French international's arrival at the Emirates is likely to hasten the departure of Alexander Hleb, who is interesting Barcelona.
THE INDEPENDENT: The Portuguese Football Federation said last night that Chelsea are keen to appoint Luiz Felipe Scolari as their next manager. Scolari is out of contract after Euro 2008 and the Portuguese confirmed that they want to hold talks with him about a new deal when the squad arrives in Switzerland on Sunday ahead of the tournament. Also: Manchester United assistant manager Carlos Queiroz launched an extraordinary attack on the Spanish nation and Real Madrid in particular over what he believes are attempts to "naturalise" Cristiano Ronaldo.
DAILY EXPRESS: Roman Abramovich is prepared to smash the wage structure at Chelsea by offering Frank Lampard £150,000 a week to keep him from the clutches of Jose Mourinho who hopes to lure the midfielder to the San Siro when he takes over as Inter Milan boss. Also: Andy Murray gave a line judge a dizzying whack on the head with his racket, but it was nothing compared to Jose Acasuso who was felled by the Scot who swept aside the Argentinian at the French Open.
DAILY STAR: John Terry took a giant stride towards erasing his Moscow misery last night. The Chelsea defender, who missed the crucial penalty kick in last week's Champions League final, put England on the road to a comfortable win with the opening goal in a 2-0 win over the United States at Wembley. Also: Aston Villa are launching an £8million bid to land goalkeeping star Joe Hart. Villa boss Martin O'Neill is ready to go head to head with Tottenham to try and prise the 21-year-old away from Manchester City.

Seven days after missing the crucial penalty in the Champions League final defeat to Manchester United, JT showed his captain's qualities after Fabio Capello gave him the armband.
