Mayweather up for Hatton re-match at Wembley

Talks have begun to stage a rematch between Ricky Hatton and Floyd Mayweather at Wembley. The American fighter's promoters revealed today he is considering a clash next spring, which would be a potential sell-out.

Mayweather won the first contest with a 10th-round stoppage in Las Vegas last December to retain his WBC welterweight title and inflict Hatton's first defeat in 44 fights.

Richard Schaefer, chief executive of Golden Boy promotions, admitted moves to get Mayweather to London have begun.

"It's very likely Floyd will come over next spring," said Schaefer. "Floyd and his manager Al Hayman are very serious about it."

Mayweather was a comfortable winner in the first contest although Hatton claims referee Joe Cortez contributed to the result.

The first fight was great and while Floyd would have to get past Oscar [De La Hoya] first. He knows that Ricky has talked about the referee.

"He wants to show that he will repeat what happened the first time. That's his motivation."
