McClaren right to leave me out of England's clash with Croatia, says Chelsea skipper Terry

John Terry has backed Steve McClaren's decision to leave him out of England's defeat by Croatia last week, even though he has come through two matches unscathed in the past four days.

The sacked coach felt it too soon to bring Terry back following his knee operation last month.

Terry returned for Chelsea's win over Derby on Sunday and was at the helm again last night for the 4-0 win in Rosenborg.

Terry said: "I feel fine now, a bit sharper after two games and it is great to be back. I had long conversations with McClaren. I wanted to be part of it and was close to playing. But it was four-and-a-half weeks after my operation and I had only done a bit of running.

"Going into a game like that I wouldn't have done the lads any favours at all."
