McLaren boss Dennis: Hamilton is not being victimised by FIA

Lewis Hamilton has not been victimised by the motor racing authorities.

That was the conveniently-timed claim made today by McLaren boss Ron Dennis ahead of his team’s appeal against the controversial demotion of Hamilton from first to third in the recent Belgian Grand Prix.

Dennis and Hamilton are making personal appearances at the FIA headquarters in Paris knowing that many pit lane observers believe the sport’s governing body has an anti-McLaren and pro-Ferrari agenda.

But Dennis insisted: 'Although Lewis has had five penalties already this season, I wouldn’t say that he hasn’t been treated fairly.

'More importantly, we have to have faith in the system, and in the fairness of the FIA International Court of Appeal.'

As it stands, Hamilton heads Ferrari rival Felipe Massa by one point with four races remaining.

Were he to be reinstated as the winner in Belgium, where he was penalised for an alleged illegal overtaking manoeuvre, Hamilton’s lead would be extended to a more comfortable seven points.
