McLeish exuding quiet confidence

Scotland manager Alex McLeish is confident of taking three points from Lithuania at Hampden Park today before a daunting trip to Paris to face Group B leaders France next week.

"I'm not going to say anything stupid that the Lithuanians will pin up on the board," he said. "We are not going to disrespect them.

"But we do have the tools to do it. We have the power, the work ethic, we have the skill and we also have the fans."

McLeish added that he wanted to prove wrong the critics who say Scotland struggle in games against weaker opposition due to a lack of creativity.

"We won the last one against the Faroe Islands and we have to win the next one," he said. "The proof is there with the results so there is no reason for the players to go out there and say: 'I wonder if we can win'.

"They have shown the confidence and they have to believe they can do it again."

SCOTLAND (probable, 4-4-2): Gordon; Hutton, McManus, Weir, McEveley; Teale, Fletcher (capt), Brown, McCulloch; O'Connor, Boyd.
