Megson: Bayern performance was for the fans

On a stunning evening for new manager Gary Megson, Davies slammed home his goal eight minutes from time to give Bolton supporters a night they will never forget in the Allianz Arena.
Happy days: Bolton boss Gary Megson
Bolton's joy was shared by Everton, who won 2-0 at Nuremberg with substitute Victor Anichebe turning the game by winning a late penalty, converted by Mikel Arteta, and scoring a second.
Bolton boss Megson said: "The talent in the Bayern side was exceptional. To come here and get a draw was terrific. It's a big night. I'm delighted for the supporters and everyone involved with Bolton.
"They have played a huge part in this result and this is for them."
Megson, forced to leave a dozen players at home through injury or suspension, could hardly buy a friend a fortnight ago.
But Bolton fans chanted his name as he proved a match in Munich for Bayern's European Cup-winning coach Ottmar Hitzfeld.
After Bolton took an early lead through Ricardo Gardner, Bayern were coasting after going ahead with two strikes from Lukas Podolski.
But Kevin Nolan capitalised on a moment of slackness and his unstinting work set up Davies for the leveller. Megson said: "It was very encouraging. But then I've been hugely encouraged since day one.
Level best: Davies blasts past Kahn to earn Bolton their fantastic draw
"You've seen it tonight - they've stuck at it. We got away with it once or twice, but it was good. The attitude and application of the players was exceptional.
"When you come to a place like this, teams can be beaten before they start. But we began brightly and got that goal from Ricardo, which was just what we wanted.
"We were without 12 players, so those who came in tonight deserve every credit. We had one or two playing out of position, but we will take a lot of confidence from this result.
"It was a great finish from Davies but you have to give Nolan credit for the work he put in to make the chance happen. He has been magnificent for me and is a top-class professional."
