Megson targets double over Sir Alex at Old Trafford

Bolton boss Gary Megson is plotting to blow the title race wide open tonight by shocking Manchester United for the second time this season.

Megson masterminded a 1-0 victory over United at the Reebok Stadium in November to kick-start their battle for survival.

That was then: Anelka scored against United in November but he's at Chelsea now

Although Bolton have since dropped back into the relegation zone, Megson hopes the memory of beating the Premier League leaders will inspire his players.

He said: "I take heart from the way we played against them earlier in the season because if we'd done that in every other game this season we'd be way higher up the League.

"You would think you would be able to do it but we haven't managed it when we've been playing against teams who haven't got the kudos of United."

Victory for the home side will stretch their lead at the top of the table by three points.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has warned his men to stand up to the threat of Kevin Davies. The striker has committed more fouls than any other Premier League player for the last four seasons and tops the standings again.

"Obviously they are missing Nicolas Anelka'fs goals since he went to Chelsea but they have Kevin Davies up front and he will do everything he possibly can to unsettle us," said Ferguson.

"He's a physical lad and we have to deal with that, but I think Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand have the height and ability to do that."

Ben Foster is on course to keep his place in the United goal as Edwin van der Sar's groin problem is likely to sideline him again.

Megson faces an anxious wait over injuries to influential pair Gary Cahill (bruised foot) and captain Kevin Nolan (back).
