Megson 'the right man to take Bolton forward' says chairman but fans are unconvinced

Megson, who quit as manager of second division Leicester City this week after a brief spell in charge, has signed a two and a half year contract.

Gartside: Delighted

"We feel Gary is the right man to take Bolton forward," club chairman Phil Gartside said on Thursday.

"He has demonstrated to me that he is prepared to roll his sleeves up and has the right temperament for a battle which this season is undoubtedly going to be."

Bolton, who are bottom of the Premier League with five points from 10 games, parted company with Sammy Lee earlier this month after he had taken over from long-serving Sam Allardyce, who moved to Newcastle United.

Megson, who twice got West Bromwich Albion promoted to the top flight, will be at the Reebok stadium for Bolton's UEFA Cup tie with Portuguese outfit Braga later on Thursday but will commence his duties against Aston Villa on Sunday.

The 48-year-old's playing career included two spells with Sheffield Wednesday while his managerial career has also taken him to Norwich City, Blackpool and Nottingham Forest.

And in a poll on a Bolton paper's website, he received just 12 votes of support out of almost 700.
