Messi on target after deal

Lionel Messi scored the opener for Argentina in their 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast today after he was cleared to play by Barcelona. Messi's participation had been in doubt after a court ruled his club side were not obliged to release him.

But the 21-year-old was included in the Argentina team after a deal was struck over insurance cover for potential injury and a commitment he would not feature in friendlies for one year.

Messi broke the deadlock just before the break. Sekou Cisse equalised before Lautaro Acosta fired the winner.
