Jermaine Jenas has pledged to become a regular goalscorer from midfield for this season. The England international was on target in the weekend friendly win over Spanish club UC Denia, and said: 'I was happy to get things moving on that front.
Salute the goal king: Jenas is vowing to hit the mark more often
'It was a tougher game than the first one and to score was ideal. Yes, it's only a friendly, but you want to get the ball rolling. It's an important part of my game.'
Jenas has no doubt as to the toughness of the current training camp Spurs are undertaking in Spain.
'It's one of the hardest pre-seasons I've done,' he added on the official Tottenham website.
'A lot of it is mentally tough with the morning starts when we're running by quarter past eight. It's tough but you've got to do it. We're looking fit and that's all that matters.'
Tottenham's preparations step up a gear against La Liga Segunda Division side Hercules CF in Alicante on Thursday, then it's Norwich City, Leyton Orient, Borussia Dortmund and Celtic in the space of a week.
Jenas said: 'We've done the running, we've got the fitness base and now we need the games - that is a completely different type of fitness.
'Hercules will be a higher standard then it's straight back for Norwich, Orient then the tournament in Feyenoord. We're all looking forward to the games.'
