Middlesbrough in 2m swoop for Pompey midfielder Davis

Middlesbrough are close to a £2million deal for Portsmouth midfielder Sean Davis.

The 28-year-old was out of favour with Harry Redknapp last season but Boro boss Gareth Southgate is a long-term admirer. Davis would join former team-mate Gary O'Neil at Boro.

Portsmouth, meanwhile, are keen on Marcelo Mattos of Panathinaikos .

The Brazilian midfielder, 24, moved to Athens from Corinthians last summer but has a release clause of £5.9m, which Pompey are reported to have matched.

Portsmouth defender Djimi Traore is joining Rennes in a £250,000 deal.
