Middlesbrough track Bordeaux £5m midfielder Menegazzo

Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate is tracking Bordeaux's Fernando Menegazzo.

The 27-year-old midfielder would cost about £5m but with Fabio Rochemback likely to leave Boro in the summer and George Boateng's future in doubt, Southgate needs to strengthen midfield.

Brazilian side Gremio hope to sign Rochemback on a free transfer and have been in frequent contact with the 26-year-old in case his contract is not extended at the Riverside.

Southgate is also monitoring the situations of Giles Barnes at Derby and Jimmy Bullard at Fulham.

Goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer is expected to have recovered from a back injury in time to face Portsmouth on Saturday.
