Milan vow to fight Chelsea for Eto'o as Ronaldinho moves closer City deal

Chelsea have been warned by AC Milan that they face a fight for the signature of Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o as they line up targets for new boss Luiz Felipe Scolari.

But Manchester City's hopes of signing Ronaldinho have been boosted by AC Milan's waning interest in the Brazil star.

Cameroon star Eto'o, 27, is one of four targets Scolari is interested in signing when he takes over as Stamford Bridge boss.

But Milan director Umberto Gandini has revealed that the £16million-rated striker is also on the wish list to revive the ageing Italian side.

"Eto'o forms part of the group of forwards who are priorities for us at this time," said Gandini. But he added that Ronaldinho "does not form part of the first list".

The Brazil international is long thought to have preferred a move to Italy after falling out of favour with the Barcelona hierarchy.

But Manchester City have launched an ambitious bid to sign the 28-year-old on wages of £200,000 a week, which has turned the head of a player desperate to regain the form that twice won him the world player of the year award.

New City boss Mark Hughes supports a £12m move and representatives from the club are believed to have held talks with Ronaldinho's camp in Brazil last week.
