Miller still waiting for answers

England selector Geoff Miller is hoping "as many as possible" members of Kevin Pietersen's squad will want to return to India this week.

The selection panel face the task of picking replacements if the Test tour goes ahead because some players may refuse to travel after the terrorist attacks on Mumbai.

"We have to see what they all say, see what the alternatives are," said Miller as England await the latest security reports after returning home from India on Saturday.

"There's no point in prejudging anything until all the decisions are made. Hopefully, as many as possible want to go."

There is already speculation that Andrew Flintoff and Steve Harmison may pull out.

And if six or seven members of the 15-man squad come to the same conclusion there might seem little point in trying to play two Tests in India.

Chief selector Miller said: "From an England point of view, representing your country is very, very big.

"But you've got to make sure you are fully focused on the job and not being sidetracked by other issues and that's pretty difficult. You've got to have a very strong character to do that."

If England do go back, they will travel to the venue of Thursday week's First Test and play a warm-up match there.

However, that may not mean Ahmedabad, a city targeted by terrorists in the past.

India have already switched the Second Test from Mumbai to Chennai and may move the Ahmedabad match to Calcutta.
