Money alone is not enough, says Moyes after Eriksson fiasco

David Moyes has warned the Premier League's new breed of super-rich owners that no amount of money can buy a short-cut to the Champions League. Everton boss Moyes, who has taken the Goodison Park outfit to the brink of the top four on a shoestring budget, admits he has been stunned by Sven Goran Eriksson's brutal treatment at Manchester City.

The former England coach is facing the sack at Eastlands, despite achieving owner Thaksin Shinawatra's target of a top-10 finish this season.

REALITY: Moyes says you need time to make teams winners

But with Shinawatra set to swing the axe in a bid to secure a Champions League spot within two years, Moyes admits that money alone will not be enough to overhaul the current Big Four. He said: "If a billionaire owner is going to come in and only give a manager money, it won't be enough. It really needs to be tagged along with time and three or four years to do it.

"But when people come in and spend big money, sometimes it becomes a situation where there has to be an instant hit.

"It's an impossible situation because nobody given the money can make it all gel and work straightaway. You need time and the chance to see it through.

"If you give somebody £100million, I don't know if that will get you in the top four in the Premier League next season.

"Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea have taken time plus money to get to where they are now."
