Monty takes on Casey's ex-caddie

Colin Montgomerie will have Paul Casey's former caddie Craig Connolly working alongside him at this week's French Open in Paris.

Casey and Connolly split after the Englishman's 10th place finish in the United States Open two weeks ago, while Montgomerie parted company with his regular bag-man Alastair McLean just before the second major of the year.

There were rumours at last week's BMW International Open in Munich that Montgomerie would take advantage of the opportunity to hire fellow Scot Connolly, but he then pulled out of the event with illness.

Casey used Irishman John Mulrooney in Germany, but said that was just a one-week arrangement and did not rule out getting back with Connolly.

"Craig and I have had a couple of breaks before. Last week both of us were tired, so we decided to have a break this week," he said. "We haven't discussed it any further - simple as that."

Asked if he had heard the reports of Connolly linking up with his Ryder Cup team-mate Casey replied: "I don't think so, but ... I'll have to have a word.

"We were friends before we were working together and to save the friendship it was best to probably just take away golf. It might turn into a week or two. We'll see."

Casey is not playing in France, but will return at the European Open in Ireland next week - and as the world number 16 will have no problem finding caddies offering their services.

Montgomerie's manager Guy Kinnings said a list of around 30 names had been drawn up to replace McLean.

He used a local caddie at the US Open, but was reported to have fallen out with him during a second round 82 that was his second-worst score in a major.

The eight-time European number one has fallen to 48th in the world by not playing last week and has not won since the Hong Kong Open at the end of 2005.
