Moore wins O'Neill vote

Martin O'Neill saluted Luke Moore as a 'priceless talent' after the striker scored a hat-trick as Aston Villa beat Toronto 4-2 in the first match of their North American tour.

Moore, who suffered a serious shoulder injury that restricted his firstteam chances last season, may have earned himself a new contract on the back of a performance that could persuade O'Neill to call off his search for reinforcements up front.

Moore has only 12 months remaining on his current deal, but O'Neill saw something that clearly struck a chord. The Villa manager said: "Luke has something in his contract where he may already have triggered a fresh deal after a number of appearances. I will be looking at that immediately and I think he will want to stay.

"He has got a priceless talent. Now he's got to work at it. He knows that if he puts the work in, it won't go to waste.

"Thousands of times during my time in the game I have come across players who think natural talent alone will carry them through, but it just doesn't happen. Luke has the ability to be anything."

It was not all good news for O'Neill. Goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen was taken off with a hamstring tear and may miss the start of the season.
