More brickbats for Murray as he wins place in last eight

Andy Murray received further criticism over his Davis Cup withdrawal after coming from a set behind to beat Stanislas Wawrinka in the Open 13 second round in Marseille.

The Scot pulled out of last weekend's Great Britain team which faced Argentina in Buenos Aires, citing a recurring knee problem which could be aggravated by playing on clay.

Fighting back: Murray powers a backhand on his way to victory over Wawrinka

World No 9 David Nalbandian was part of the home team that won 4-1 and believes Murray put himself before his country.

Jamie Murray has already criticised his brother, arguing he could have played if he had the desire.

Nalbandian told the Ole newspaper: 'He did not want to come here, that's all. He was not injured. His priority was not taking risks.'

Murray, playing on an indoor hard court this week, appeared to be in trouble against Wawrinka after an opening set-and-a-half which featured nine breaks of service, Murray losing his five times.

But, in a repeat of the Qatar Open final, the Scot forced his way back to win in three sets — 3-6, 7-6, 6-1 — in a little over two hours and 20 minutes. He will face Frenchman Nicolas Mahut in the last eight.
