Solskjaer: Operation was successful
Thor Einar Anderson, Norway's team doctor, said surgeons removed some cartilage from Solskjaer's right knee to help reduce swelling.
"He had swelling and intermittent locking of the joint, so he was operated on this morning in Oslo," said Anderson.
"There were no complications and he is now fine. Hopefully, he will be back in full training in some weeks. We hope this is not something that will return again but it's too soon to say"
Solskjaer has undergone two knee reconstructions in recent years but he is expected to be able to train fully in a matter of weeks, and insists the new injury is not a serious one.
"I don't want you to write my football career history book yet," Solskjaer said.
"I was relieved to discover that this wasn't new, but something from the injury in March. Physically and mentally I'm ready to join the team at the start of the season in four weeks.
"The whole operation was discussed with United. They were fine with me having the surgery in Norway and, by the way, the surgeon is invited to next year's Champions League final!"
Norway team doctor Thor Einar Anderson added: "(The surgery) went fine. We found what we expected. The knee was swollen and the joint was irritated, but we treated it. Hopefully it will be better when Ole resumes his training.
"We hope this is not something that will return again and again.

HENRY NOW TOP OF MY WISH LIST, SAYS MILAN'S ANCELOTTI
AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Arsenal striker Thierry Henry is among his transfer targets this summer.
Barcelona's Samuel Eto'o and Chelsea front man Didier Drogba have all been linked with moves to the San Siro, but Henry is considered Milan's primary target.
Barcelona and Chelsea have also been linked with £20million-rated Henry, but Ancelotti said: "Henry is a great striker and among the players who we are interested in."
Ancelotti had claimed after the Champions League Final that Milan were on the brink of a major coup.
Henry's veteran France team-mate, Chelsea's Claude Makelele, could be joining David Beckham in America after admitting that his future at Stamford Bridge remains uncertain.
Arsenal midfield target Franck Ribery could be on his way to Bayern Munich. Marseille confirmed that the clubs have held talks, with the fee thought to be around £17m.
