Mourinho close to a decision as Inter step up their campaign to sign former Chelsea boss

Jose Mourinho is torn over his future after Massimo Moratti resumed a remarkable long-running campaign to entice him to the San Siro.

Despite claiming he has had no contact with Inter Milan, the former Chelsea manager has been offered nine million euros a year to replace Roberto Mancini at the end of the season.

Decision time: Mourinho is torn between saying yes to Inter and waiting for a better offer

It is the latest attempt by Moratti to instal Mourinho as coach, and the Inter chief has already made it clear he does not readily take 'no' for an answer.

When Mourinho accepted an offer from Roman Abramovich to take over at Chelsea, after winning the Champions' League with Porto, Inter were one of the clubs who had been vying for his services.

As he stood in the departure lounge, waiting for a flight to London to begin his new challenge, Mourinho answered a call on his mobile phone and heard Moratti pleading for a last-minute change of heart.

'He just doesn't give up, and it was all Jose could do to convince him he had already committed himself to Chelsea,' said a source close to Mourinho. 'Now it could happen, but Jose still isn't sure. He has also met officials from Barcelona and wants to see what happens there with Frank Rijkaard.'
