Moyes hits back after Beattie claims Everton didn't treat him with respect

David Moyes hit back at James Beattie today in the row over the former England striker's troubled stay at Everton.

Beattie was dismissed as a £7million flop after failing to live up to expectations at Goodison Park and being offloaded to Sheffield United for a knockdown fee.

It clearly still rankled with him as he reflected on having to drop into the Championship to try and revive his career, and said: 'I don't think I was treated with the respect I deserved during my time with Everton.'

Moyes took exception to the ex-Southampton frontrunner's claim, ahead of tomorrow's trip to Birmingham, and said: 'It surprised me to hear those comments. I don't like talking about players at other clubs, but what I will say is that we always do well by players while they are here.'
