Moyes moves in as Betis release Vogel

Everton are closing in on deals for Borussia Dortmund's Steven Pienaar and Johann Vogel of Real Betis. Vogel, the 30-year-old Switzerland captain and holding midfielder, is being allowed to leave by the Spaniards just a year after joining them from AC Milan.

He was previously with Swiss club Grasshoppers Zurich and Dutch side PSV Eindhoven.

Moyes: Double swoop

He was holding talks with Everton yesterday and could be followed by Pienaar within 24 hours.

Sources in Germany say the South Africa midfielder, 25, who shot to prominence with his Champions League performances for Ajax, is being lined up on a one-year loan deal with a view to a permanent move.

Manchester City have also shown interest in Pienaar but Everton manager David Moyes looks set to win the chase.

Moyes has already signed Sheffield United midfielder Phil Jagielka for £4million and is still interested in Manchester United forward Alan Smith and Wigan left back Leighton Baines.
