Muamba's £5m move to Bolton 'good business' for City, says McLeish

Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish has promised to find a ‘quality’ replacement for Fabrice Muamba following the former Arsenal midfielder’s £5million move to Bolton Wanderers.
While McLeish allowed Muamba to remain in the top flight by signing for Gary Megson, the club are in no mood to let their best players leave cheaply.
Signed and sealed: Bolton manager Gary Megson has completed a deal for Fabrice Muamba
And now the former Scotland manager has been given money to find a player to fill the gap left by the England Under-21 international Muamba.
“The bid was too good for the club to turn down and what is important now is that I replace Fab with another quality player,” said McLeish.
“I told him it was a good move for him and good business for Birmingham City.
“When you have a squad as small as ours it’s vital to fill the gaps when players leave. We have an experienced midfielder in Lee Carsley but with Fab gone we need to further strengthen in that department.”
Birmingham’s managing director Karren Brady demanded a deal which could eventually be worth £5.75 million.
Arsenal have also received money from the deal.
With add-ons, Muamba’s move to Birmingham earned them £3.15 million and they will also receive around £600,000 which is 30 per cent of the profit made on the Bolton transfer.
