Murray recovery stopped by Tipsarevic

Andy Murray's recent revival was brought crashing to a halt as Janko Tipsarevic booked his place in the Kremlin Cup quarter-finals with a 6-4 7-5 victory in Moscow today.

The Scot started sluggishly and failed to muster a single break-point in the opening set against the world number 68, who in stark contrast had seven opportunities to break.

He succeeded with just one of them - but with world number 18 Murray out of sorts, that was enough to earn him a one-set advantage.

The British number one was much improved in the second set - and after failing to convert break opportunities in each of Tipsarevic's opening two service games, he made it third time lucky to seize the initiative.

A deciding set appeared on the cards as Murray moved into a 5-3 lead. But Tipsarevic reeled off the next four games to gain revenge for last week's defeat against the 20-year-old in Metz.

The Serbian was far more clinical on the crucial points, converting two out of three break opportunities in the second set as opposed to Murray's one out of 10 - to book a last-eight date against Radek Stepanek.
