Newcastle and Sunderland in a scrap for Celtic's McGeady

Sunderland boss Roy Keane could be involved in a transfer battle with Newcastle for Celtic's Aiden McGeady this summer.

Celtic do not want to sell but they are short of cash and would be forced to consider an offer of £10m for the 22-year-old Republic of Ireland left winger.

Newcastle amanager Kevin Keegan's transfer budget could be boosted by £4million. Shola Ameobi's loan move to Stoke, which has already cost the Championship side an initial £500,000 'transfer' fee, will become permanent if they are promoted on Sunday.

Keegan could use some of it to sign Mamadou Sakho from Paris St Germain. The 18-year-old defender has been recommended by Dennis Wise but Keegan wants to watch the player first.
