Newcastle join Tottenham and Villa in Anton Ferdinand chase

Newcastle have joined Tottenham and Aston Villa, in the race to land West Ham star Anton Ferdinand.

The Magpies are the latest Premier League club to be linked with centre back Ferdinand and although no official offer has yet been made, it is understood they would pay around £6m.

Newcastle secured the future of central defender Steven Taylor last week, who penned a new three-year contract believed to be worth about £35,000 a week, but they are still searching for more depth in that area.

West Ham want at least £8million for the former England Under 21 defender and although the Hammers are not keen to let Ferdinand go it is significant that the representatives of the 23-year-old have not made the expected contact with the Upton Park club about a new contract.
