Djibril Cisse has again missed out on a major tournament for France after being left out of Raymond Domenech's 23-man squad for Euro 2008 in favour of St Etienne striker Bafetimbi Gomis, who has been watched by Newcastle.
Former Liverpool forward Cisse, who missed the 2006 World Cup after breaking his leg in a warm-up game, has been omitted despite the fact 22-year-old Gomis has only one previous cap for Les Bleus.

Gomis celebrated his first cap with two goals to earn France a 2-0 win over Ecuador in a Euro 2008 warm-up on Tuesday.
Marseille youngster Samir Nasri, who will complete a move to Arsenal this summer, has been preferred to Lyon protege Hatem Ben Arfa, while uncapped goalkeeper Steve Mandanda, Nasri's club team-mate, is picked ahead of Paris St Germain's Mickael Landreau.
In defence, Lyon duo Jean-Alain Boumsong and Sebastien Squillaci have been included ahead of Julien Escude and the injured Philippe Mexes.

Bordeaux's Alou Diarra and former Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini were also cut from Domenech's preliminary squad today.
Apart from the high number of inexperienced players in the squad, the big surprise is Domenech's decision to name only one genuine left-winger in the shape of Chelsea's Florent Malouda.
France kick off their campaign against Romania on June 9 before facing Holland and Italy in their remaining Group C fixtures.
Goalkeepers: Gregory Coupet (Lyon), Sebastien Frey (Fiorentina), Steve Mandanda (Marseille).
Defenders: Eric Abidal (Barcelona), Jean-Alain Boumsong (Lyon), Francois Clerc (Lyon), Patrice Evra (Manchester United), William Gallas (Arsenal), Willy Sagnol (Bayern Munich), Sebastien Squillaci (Lyon), Lilian Thuram (Barcelona).
Midfielders: Lassana Diarra (Portsmouth), Claude Makelele (Chelsea), Jeremy Toulalan (Lyon), Patrick Vieira (Inter Milan), Samir Nasri (Marseille) Franck Ribery (Bayern Munich).
Forwards: Nicolas Anelka (Chelsea), Karim Benzema (Lyon), Bafetimbi Gomis (Saint-Etienne), Sidney Govou (Lyon), Thierry Henry (Barcelona), Florent Malouda (Chelsea).
