Mike Newell has joined the list of contenders to be Gillingham's new manager.

Former Luton and Hartlepool boss Newell has been out of work since being sacked by the Kenilworth Road club in March.

Martin Allen, Graham Rix and caretaker manager Iffy Onuora are also on the shortlist.
