New-look Fulham sunk by Pompey

Fulham's new boys could not stop them slipping to a 1-0 defeat to Portsmouth in the Barclays Asia Trophy on Tuesday.

Diomansy Kamara, Chris Baird and Paul Konchesky all started the match in Hong Kong but Harry Redknapp's side triumphed to clinch a place in Friday's final.

They will meet either Liverpool or South China, who play this afternoon.

Fulham twice went close just before the break through Clint Dempsey.

His close-range header was superbly blocked by goalkeeper David James and, from the resulting corner, the American's goal-bound shot was cleared by Sol Campbell.

Portsmouth took the lead a minute later when Niko Kranjcar's drive bounced off Fulham defender Zat Knight and Benjani calmly stroked the loose ball home.

Kamara looked as if he would score after a jinking run took him past three defenders and left him with only James to beat.

However, the striker's poor effort struck the Portsmouth No1.

A couple of minutes later Kamara made way for fellow new signing, David Healy.

Matt Taylor almost made it 2-0 at the death but his drive from 20 yards smacked against the post.
