No great leap for Westwood despite his third-place finish at US Open

Lee Westwood's third place finish in the US Open has moved him up only three places on the world rankings from 20th to 17th.

Sergio Garcia is back as Europe's top-ranked player at sixth, one spot ahead of Justin Rose, while Tiger Woods reached 500 weeks as number one regardless of whether he won or lost his play-off with Rocco Mediate.

Before going to Torrey Pines 45-year-old Mediate stood 158th. Matching Woods'
one-under-par total guaranteed him a leap of more than 100 places and victory over the extra 18 holes would take him to 27th.

Even without playing last week Darren Clarke is back in the top 100 - by 0.01
points - but Colin Montgomerie stands 108th after missing the cut.
